about

The W20 is formed of a transnational network of delegates representing non government women’s organizations, civil society, female entrepreneurs, businesses, and think tanks across G20 member states. Through a broad dialogue facilitated by digital tools, expert meetings, roundtables and the final Summit, W20 delegates jointly formulate concrete actionable policy recommendations to advance gender equality in G20 negotiations. The W20 Communique reflects the engagement group's position with supporting evidence; while these recommendations are non-binding, they are considered by the G20 for its discussions and negotiations and contribute to the policymaking process. Every year, the W20 develops and addresses to the G20 Leaders a Communiqué which contains a series of actionable policy recommendations aimed at fostering gender equality and women’s economic empowerment in order to boost gender-inclusive economic growth for each and every country.

Saudi Arabia is the G20 host country for the year 2020 and will work closely with  Troika members Japan (2019) and Italy (2021) to address some of the most pressing issues of our time - including international trade, sustainable development, climate change, and energy, health and social inclusion.

Women 20 (W20), the G20 engagement group working towards the full economic empowerment of women, held the Japanese-Saudi Arabian Handover Ceremony on  Monday the 25th of November 2019 at Alnahda Society in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The  Women 20 Japan, represented by Professor Yoriko Meguro, W20 Chair and Ms. Tsuki  Tsukhara, W20 Sherpa handed over the W20 Presidency to Saudi Arabia represented by Dr. Thoraya Obaid, W20 Chair and Ms. Salma AlRashid, W20 Sherpa and with the presence of Ms. Elvira Marasco, Italian delegate to represent the Troika.

The day started with a closed-door Troika meeting with other W20 delegates joining remotely where presentations took place to discuss the W20 Japan handbook,  accomplishments and way forward.

To commemorate this occasion, representatives from different G20 Saudi Arabia engagement groups including Civil 20, Labor 20,  Think 20, Urban 20 and Youth 20 were invited as well as members from the private sector.

W20 Saudi Arabia is looking forward to continuing the legacy and accomplishments of W20 Japan and other W20 predecessors in delivering a successful and fruitful  W20 presidency.
